This is a challenge to post every day in April (except on Sundays) blogging thematically from A to Z. Go HERE for details. My A-Z theme this year is Greek Mythology inspired by the book The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan that I recently read. Please be aware that what I write is my interpretation of my findings and may not necessarily be accurate.

Cronus or Kronos was the leader and the youngest of the first generation of Titans, divine descendants of Gaia, the earth, and Uranus, the sky. He castrated his father, Uranus, and took over the throne. He married his sister, Rhea. Their offspring were the first of the Olympians. Concerned for his safety (he was destined to be overcome by his own sons, just as he had overthrown his father), he ate his children as they were born except for Zeus because Rhea tricked him into swallowing a rock instead. Zeus did grow up to overthrow Cronus and defeated other Titans. He then banished the Titans to Tartarus in the underworld. Cronus managed to escape to Italy, where he ruled as Saturn. The time of his ruling was called the Golden Age because there was no need for laws or rules since everyone did the right thing and immorality did not exist.
Side note: There was also a story that Cronus was given an emetic to empty his stomach and thus disgorge his children. Gotta love greek mythology. Bizarre things can happen! :)
